There are very few things, if any, which can outshine the nightlife in NYC. We are surrounded by a variety of spots we would like to be seen at, places to go and mingle, socialize or network and of course there are always those areas we go to, in hopes of meeting someone special. Being in New York, all of these choices are close at hand, convenient and diametrically different.

The tale of Carnegie Hall begins similar to many famous landmarks – groundbreaking, insane, a bad idea, and a love story. It is also a great story and I recently learned the inside scoop by attending a guided tour of Carnegie Hall. Our guide knew every imaginable (and some not) detail about the Hall and its history and was extremely excited to share the whole story!

The new single from Rachael Sage’s current album Character is a timely release in these days of Covid-19. Originally written as a meditation on gratitude relating to her recent cancer therapy and recovery, the lyrics have taken on additional meaning as our world has been turned upside down during the recent and ongoing pandemic.

It’d been far too long since I’d seen an authentic blues show before I saw Jimmie Vaughan last week. Jimmie was in town for two sold out shows at The Iridium. The intimate setting, and the small crowd made the performance even more personal.

When it come to British rock I tend to gravitate toward the more testosterone driven material by The Stones, The Who, The Kinks, The Animals and Led Zeppelin, etc. So when I was invited to see Peter Noone at The Iridium recently, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I knew the hit singles from Herman’s Hermits, of course, and went to the show with an open mind.

It became immediately evident at last night’s John Waite show, his second of two nights at The Iridium, that his heartfelt lyrics and sincere delivery has been underappreciated by the masses for a long time. These are the qualities that make his work stand out head and shoulders above many of his 80s and 90s contemporaries.

In my opinion, no band should ever consider doing cover versions of previous hit songs unless they’re going to do something unique and memorable with them and ensure the listener can escape the memory engrained by the original version. This is the craft that Vanilla Fudge has perfected better than anyone else!

In a short span of a couple of years Vanilla Fudge perfected an epic and thunderous sound and laid the foundation for the further development of Heavy Metal! Their embellished and expanded versions of late 60’s pop hits were and still are a breath of fresh air!
