Best Things To Do in NYC

In my opinion, no band should ever consider doing cover versions of previous hit songs unless they’re going to do something unique and memorable with them and ensure the listener can escape the memory engrained by the original version. This is the craft that Vanilla Fudge has perfected better than anyone else!

In a short span of a couple of years Vanilla Fudge perfected an epic and thunderous sound and laid the foundation for the further development of Heavy Metal! Their embellished and expanded versions of late 60’s pop hits were and still are a breath of fresh air!

“Welcome back my friends / To the show that never ends!” Supposedly, when the Rolling Stones first started, their worst fear would be that someone would mistake them for a rock and roll group - you see, they thought of themselves as a blues band.

Likewise, when pianist Keith Emerson, singer, bassist and guitarist Greg Lake, and drummer Carl Palmer first joined forces 50 years ago (like Crosby, Stills, and Nash, they all were veterans of other successful bands - this was indeed a “supergroup”), few people would have confused them for any other rock band that had existed up to that point.

In the capable hands of David Grisman and his latest ensemble, the “Dawg Trio,” Bluegrass is an exciting and thriving art form, at once both classic and current, with a deep history as well as no end of contemporary relevance.

Eric Gales has said, “it’s very, very possible to bring together white, black, woman, man, all races, all creeds together. We are all but one human race - am I right?”

To some out of towners it might look like Halloween in NYC everyday. But, as we know, Halloween in NYC (and every other holiday) exceeds expectations every year! The audience at last night’s Halloween show by The Tubes at The Iridium (51st and Broadway) ensured the holiday was adequately represented as they dressed up for a great time and to celebrate one of their favorite bands.
