High-end steakhouses are part of the fabric and soul of NYC. Nearly every Steakhouse outside of NYC has been inspired by our local legends to some degree. There are many famous steakhouses here, which makes competition stiff and requires owners and their staff to provide a 110% service and satisfaction level at all times. Those that don’t do so fall away quickly!

Wolfgang’s Steakhouse, one of the most famous New York Steakhouses, has been keeping their NYC customers happy for over 40 years. Over the years, Wolfgang’s Steakhouse has grown to 5 convenient Manhattan locations and another three in the US and 10 international outlets. Their newest location recently opened in Herald Square here in NYC on Broadway between 36th and 37th St.

Wolfgang’s growth has been fueled by providing consistently exceptional food and service surpassing their competition and keeping their customers happy. Each of their locations feature spacious and comfortable dining rooms with rich and luxurious décor. They offer the perfect spot to relax, take your time and enjoy your meal.

We recently dined at the Wolfgang’s Steakhouse in Tribeca where we were thoroughly impressed and instantly reminded of why they are one of Manhattan’s few premier steakhouses.

Wolfgang’s is famous for their steaks but they also offer some of the city’s finest seafood dishes. We found that any of the items we sampled would have been a great meal of it’s own. Experiencing a little of each appetizer, steak, sides and dessert as a complete meal was a truly remarkable dining experience!

We started our meal with their Seafood Tower. This is a delicious feast of its own! The tower was full of succulent lump crabmeat, large and juicy shrimps, and a perfectly cooked whole lobster. The portions are generous and the variety of flavor helped us to finish the entire dish!

Next up we had their famous Canadian bacon. The thick bacon was lean and grilled and full of flavor. This was a perfect bridge from the Seafood Tower to the Porterhouse for 2 that was on its way!

As we waited for the Porterhouse, we sampled the Fresh Mozzarella and Beefsteak Tomato salad. The Mozzarella and tomatoes were both thickly sliced and topped with a creamy basil vinaigrette. A perfect Wolfgang’s twist to a traditional steakhouse salad!

I must also mention the breadbasket! Far from ordinary, the basket was full of hot and fresh onion and poppy seed rolls and a French baguette. Each was warm and soft with tons of flavor!

Next came the star of the meal…a perfectly cooked, medium rare Porterhouse for two. Part strip and part fillet, it was juicy, tender and melted in your mouth! The outside was charred and crunchy with a soft pink inside. Unbelievably perfect!

The steak was complimented with two sides, Wolfgang’s Creamed Spinach and their signature German Potatoes. The staff and loyal customers consider these two sides as the perfect match between themselves and for the Porterhouse.

The Creamed Spinach was an incredible dish on its own. Most Creamed Spinach dishes feature more cream than spinach and the flavor of the spinach gets lost. Wolfgang’s Creamed Spinach was light on the cream, which allowed the flavor of the spinach to shine. We couldn’t get enough!

Wolfgang’s German Potatoes were like hash browns. Served hot directly from the oven, they featured a perfect crust and caramelized onions. As the staff suggested, these were indeed the perfect pair!

It’s not possible for me to do the Porterhouse justice in this brief column. The steaks here are dry aged up to 28 days on site and you can taste the difference immediately. The mix of the two cuts of meat from each side of the T Bone is excellent and the steak was perfectly cooked inside and out. This is a meal you’ll remember for a long time! You’ll want more after its finished too but you won’t have any place to put it.

Of course, to wrap up a meal of this caliber, you must include dessert! As with everything else at Wolfgang’s, their desserts are fresh and house made. We tried two… the house made Crème brulee and another star of the evening, the very special key lime pie. The key lime pie at Wolfgang’s is complimented by an in-house specialty, “Schlag.” Schlag is a homemade German whipped cream with a very unique flavor that’s very tasty without being too filling. It was beyond perfect! No doubt the best key lime pie you’ll ever have north of Key West! I promise.

After this meal it is easy to see how Wolfgang’s has expanded from their original flagship location at 4 Park Avenue. The attention to detail from the cooler to the table is immediately evident and Wolfgang’s does everything to ensure each guest has a perfect meal on every visit.

As co-owner Zio Music told me, “We use the best of the best, from meat to dry goods. Each steak is hand selected by either a chef or a partner. It’s simple but everything we use is NOTHING but the best.”

Wolfgang’s Steakhouse is a perfect example of dining excellence and I encourage you to find out for yourself if you don’t already know. Maybe tonight?
