Admittedly, there are Sinatra tributes given almost weekly (not to mention weakly) in every club in the city, but this is the only one that recognizes that the legendary entertainer’s legacy was primarily a jazz legacy, and that the only artists who can pay proper tribute to the one and only Ol’ Blue Eyes are those few and rare contemporary singers who actually know where the beat is. Thus, the emphasis is on the best jazz singers in New York, including Gabrielle Stravelli, Danny Bacher, Alexis Cole, and the 16-year-old wonder child Anais Reno. Also, co-producers Andrew Poretz (tripling on guitar and vocals) and myself will host and play the roles of “The Bald Bialystock and Blume.” Furthermore, Dawn Derow, whose upcoming Eydie Gorme songbook is one of the cabaret shows I’m most looking forward to this Spring (at the Beach March 14), will be on hand to signify that this could be the start of somethin’ big.
