Believe it or not, we are approaching the 90th birthday of the venerable Stephen Sondheim - so if you feel like singing the composer’s own biting self-satire, “Sondheim is God,” you are now officially entitled to sing it as “Sondheim is Older than God,” should you so desire. This promises to be a fun and perky tribute to the mighty man on his big nine-oh, not least of which because it stars two cast members of everybody’s favorite contemporary comedy series, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, namely Tituss Burgess (Titus Andromedon) and Jane Krakowski (Jacqueline Voorhees), who will sing alongside Loretta Devine and the formidable Lillias White; Charlie Rosen is musical director. (I have my fingers crossed that Lillian Kaushtupper and Kimmy herself will make a surprise guest appearance.) I’m particularly looking forward to seeing Mr. Burgess in concert - a new experience for me - and I am told that, for an encore, he eats six-time Grammy-winner Dionne Warwick.
