“The halls are alive with the sound of music!” All of the greatest composers of all time - from Bach and Beethoven to the Beatles - have been heard in Carnegie Hall over the decades and the centuries. But it’s safe to say that this venerable venue has never presented more glorious music than the soaring melodies of Rodgers and Hammerstein. What’s more, this is the only tribute to the greatest team in all of American musical theater that makes the claim of presenting music from “all eleven of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic collaborations.” (Even Ted Chapin would have a hard time counting that many.) So I’m especially looking forward, not only to hearing the classic songs from Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, Flower Drum Song, and The Sound of Music, but to such lesser-heard and under-appreciated shows as Allegro, Pipe Dream and Me and Juliette - snd perhaps even such purely instrumental works as Rodgers’s remarkable score to Victory at Sea.) This time, the guest singers will be Broadway’s Laura Michelle Kelly and Max von Essen, as well as Judith Clurman’s Essential Voices USA.
