Marissa Mulder, usually classified as a cabaret singer (a flexible term if ever there was one; she continues to win kinds of Mabel Mercer Foundation and other genre awards) is an entertainer with a unique gift for getting immediately to the heart of things, both to the deep inner core of a song and to the heart of everyone listening. More than any other currently active singer, she may be the greatest heiress to the living legacy of the legendary Doris Day, sharing the now late icon’s effortless knack for pure communication, and with it, an apparent inability to express anything other than the absolute purest emotional truth. This show, built around the iconic songbook of Jerome Kern, first presented at the Beach last summer, is just as moving as her most recent album, Two Tickets Left, and that one you don't want to miss.
