Luba Mason 5' 10" at Feinstein's

“Luba Mason - 5’ 10”
Feinstein’s / 54 Below
254 West 54th St
Tuesday December 3

The singer has copyrighted the term "Mixtura," making it a musical category that's legally all her own, but she needn't have bothered – it seems unlikely that some other vocalist will come along and try to do what she does, ie, to mix up songs and stylistic elements from the worlds of jazz, Broadway, pop, Latin and international music. (Sometimes she goes even further afield, as in "Don't Shoot The Hooey To Me, Louie," a 1970s show music approximation of 1940s jive, and she was a standout in the recent Girl from the North Country, which effectively transformed the Bob Dylan catalog into show tunes). Her latest show is titled “Luba Mason - 5’ 10”,” and this is one we’ve been waiting for, wherein she takes a deep dive into her own personal history, her multi-ethnic origins, long history (especially for someone who isn’t remotely old) on Broadway, and even up through her remarkable marriage to the legendary Panamanian musical icon Ruben Blades.
