Mark Nadler "The Old Razzle Dazzle" @ The Beechman

Mark Nadler “The Old Razzle Dazzle”
Laurie Beechman Theater at the West End Cafe
407 W. 42nd Street
Wednesdays, September 11 & 25

When is a one-man show a three-ring circus? “Cabaret” doesn’t only imply Julie Wilson in her suave feather boas or Mabel Mercer enthroned on her singing stool: pianist-singer Mark Nadler shows how the The Great American Songbook can be reanimated with the frenetic, verbal-physical energy of Danny Kaye and the Ritz Brothers. Yet Nadler is also a superlative balladeer, and his slow love songs show that the full-speed-ahead funnyman does indeed have a tender and sensitive side. This latest show is themed to the concept of “Razzle dazzle,” not just in show business (and the famous song from the classic musical Chicago), but in a broader look at how exaggeration, hyperbole and plain old “fake news” have permeated every aspect of contemporary life. As the Beechman describes Mr. Nadler's current offering: “Lying is all the rage these days, but hasn’t it always been? Join internationally acclaimed neo-vaudevillian, Mark Nadler, as he sings, plays the piano, spins tall tales and literally tap dances around the truth!”
