This latest offering by the dynamic entertainer Ann Hampton Callaway is themed to her current album, the excellent Jazz Goes to the Movies, but there's a key difference.  When most of us older fans first fell in love  with Ms. Callaway, in the 1980s and 90s, she was essentially a pianist-singer, but as she's grown in popularity she's learned, like her contempoary Michael Feinstein and the legendary Nat King Cole, that one of the keys to reaching a wider audience is to stand up and face the crowd - and let someone else play piano.  In this, she's been an indisputed success (especially with, most often, the formidable Ted Rosenthal on keyboard) but a lot of her longtime audience still prefers the more intimate nights of her earlier period; I personally think she's never better than when playing for herself.  It's probably a less extroverted AHC that we'll see this weak at Feinstein's, less of a flamboyant diva, but I for one am looking forward to seeing and hearing her getting back to basics, especially on her Peggy Lee-influenced "Folks Who Live on the Hill."
