City Center Encores! presents
"High Button Shoes" by Sammy Cahn & Jule Styne
City Center
131 W 55th St., CityTix (212) 581-1212
Through Sunday May 12

This virtually-forgotten 1947 hit is remembered for its star, being the first of three hit Broadway vehicles for the legendary comic Phil Silvers.  And also for the artists who recorded its memorable songs: "Can't You Just See Yourself" and "You're My Girl" by Frank Sinatra, and one of the definitive Broadway polkas, "Poppa, Won't You Dance With Me" by Doris Day.  It's one of those Broadway gems you've always wanted to see, and this long-awaited Encores revival - with Betsy Wolfe in the female lead and Michael Urie as the incorrigible "Harrison Floy" should be well-worth seeing.  Oh yes - that and the way Mel Brooks parodied it (the title at least) as High Button Jews in The Producers.
