Jack Kleinsinger’s Highlights in Jazz presents
“46th Anniversary Gala”
Tribeca Performing Arts Center
199 Chambers Street – (212) 220-1460
Thursday, February 28, 2018- 8 P.M.

If you’ve attended even a few “Highlights in Jazz” concerts, you know that this long-running series has a several “house rules” that it adheres to rather stringently: every show has a special guest, every concert comprises two very full two sets (you can hear a whole week’s worth of jazz in a single night), and every season starts with a special anniversary event. This year, the 47th season gets underway with a 46th Anniversary show, spotlighting four headliners who are worthy of paying a cover charge and minimum all by themselves: the eloquent trumpeter Warren Vache, soulful tenor champ Houston Person, versatile vocalist and pianist Daryl Sherman, and Ken Peplowski, who triples on saxophone, clarinet, and antic wit (and who has elevated the unique jazz tradition of bandstand shtick into a high art form). Supporting them is a formidable rhythm section of pianist Lafayette Harris, guitarist James Chirillo, bassist Boots Malleson, and a drummer not yet announced (quite possibly a surprise guest). As impresario Jack Kleinsinger knows well, you can’t go wrong with a line-up like this; collectively, these are four of the most entertaining headliners playing the music today.
