Tavern On The Green: Holiday Magic On The Upper West Side - New York City Article

Designed by Julian Calderon, the 20 foot tree, adorned in over 2,000 ornaments, is inspired by the history of Central Park's iconic restaurant, mixing traditional and modern styles to reflect the architecture and history of the building. ‬‬

An additional dozen of 8 to 12 foot Noble Fir trees will be peppered throughout the interior spaces,10,000 lights will be strung around the perimeter of the building, and executive chef Bill Peet will be installing a full scale Tavern on the Green gingerbread house in the restaurant's grand entry. They have created a magical holiday experience inside and out for the tens of thousands of guests they'll welcome in the coming weeks.‬‬

As part of the tree lighting ceremony, students from Tavern charitable partner West Side Campaign Against Hunger’s Chef Training Program was on hand sampling their handmade soup to help raise awareness of their organization.

The Courtyard at Tavern On the Green is among the city’s most iconic and notable landmarks. Tucked away along the West side of Central Park near 67th St. the setting here is cozy, warm and highlights the soul of New York City.

A Central Park staple, the historic Tavern on the Green has been capturing the spirit of New York City since 1934. In 2014, co-owners Jim Caiola and David Salama (previously of Beau Monde and L’Etage in Philadelphia) re-opened Tavern with a completely redesigned space and menu that harkens back to the original landmark featuring warm, celebratory dining spaces, seasonal American fare, classic cocktails, and a robust wine list.

Jim and David selected Bill Peet (formerly of Asia de Cuba, Café des Artistes & Patroon) as Executive Chef for the revival of Tavern, who has reinvigorated the menu with creative takes on classic dishes.

The holiday décor at Tavern is a thorough treatment of the entire restaurant and is a must see for both locals and visitors. The holiday spirit certainly comes alive and you’ll find it easy to settle in and relax as you enjoy one of the most memorable holiday experiences in New York City.
