American Song - Something Wonderful: Celebrating the Songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein
Featuring John Pizzarelli & Jessica Molaskey (and Ted Chapin & Todd S. Purdum)
NJPAC (Victoria Theater)
1 Center Street
Newark, New Jersey 07102, 1-888-GO-NJPAC
Tuesday, December 5, 7:30PM
This promises to be an upbeat and unforgettable - fun-filled and fact-packed - celebration of the most important team in all of musical theater - Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Ted Chapin, the man behind the R&H organization for lo these many years (and also currently in charge of Lyrics & Lyricists at 92Y) and Todd Purdum, author of the highly acclaimed recent book, Something Wonderful: Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Broadway Revolution, will swap stories and anecdotes and illuminate just what made Rodgers & Hammerstein’s work a true “Broadway revolution.” Meanwhile, the Pizzarellis, John and Jessica, will offer the songs themselves - undoubtedly drawing on his marvelous 2008 album, With a Song in My Heart: The Music of Richard Rodgers. Here’s hoping Mr. Pizzarelli treats us to his beautiful, intimate and highly moving version of “You’ve Got to Be Carefully Taught” from South Pacific.
