City Center Encores! presents HEY, LOOK ME OVER!

City Center Encores! presents “Hey, Look Me Over!"
City Center
131 W 55th St., CityTix (212) 581-1212
Wednesday February 7 through February July 11

Over the last 25 years, Encores! has presented nearly a hundred classic works (and some highly enjoyable not-so-classic ones) of the American Musical Theater. So, to celebrate this big anniversary, the Encores! crew is mounting an elaborate revue of scenes and songs from shows that have not yet been staged at City Center. These include many lesser-known works by canonical composers, such as Charles Strouse’s All American, Frank Loesser’s Greenwillow, Harold Arlen’s Jamaica, Noel Coward’s Sail Away, Cy Coleman’s Wildcat, Jerry Herman’s Mack & Mabel and Milk and Honey, and the George M. Cohan bioshow George M!. The cast is accurately advertised as “a cavalcade of stars”: among them the brilliant baritone Marc Kudisch, the inspired comedienne Judy Kuhn, the marvelous song-and-dance gal Bebe Neuwirth, the vivacious Carolee Carmello, and Douglas Sills, most recently seen in War Paint, a leading man who seems to have just stepped out of a 1940 issue of Esquire. Hey, Look Me Over! is subtitled “A musical within a musical with a musical within…” and just to make this an even more meta treat for hardcore Broadway insiders, Bob Martin, will reprise his unforgettable role as “man in chair” from The Drowsy Chaperone and serve as the evening’s narrator and host.
