You know the last name - he’s the younger brother (by 12 years) of the legendary Nat King Cole - but if you’re not familiar with the wonderful Freddy Cole, then it’s strictly your loss. Like his late niece, Natalie Cole, Freddy has spent most of his life developing his own musical identity while at the same time extending his brother’s iconic legacy in a meaningful and very personal way. And like Nat, his primary tools are not necessarily just keyboard and voice, but the binary dichotomies of space and sound, tempo and emotion. He sometimes describes his shows as “an invitation to relaxation,” and while it’s true that it’s literally impossible to feel stressed out while Mr. Cole is performing, he inspires other feelings as well, especially romantic sentiments and that warm, deep-in-your-gut, holiday inner glow. Trust me, there’s no one you’d rather spend the Christmas season with - especially knowing that he’s going to sing his own “Jingles, the Christmas Cat” (an adorable children’s song that proves that reindeer aren’t the only four-legged friends to get a piece of the North Pole action) and his brother’s all-time classic “The Christmas Song.”
