As anticipated, Jazzmeia Horn put on a spectacular show last night at the Harlem Stage Gatehouse. There was quite a buzz prior the show in front of the theater as fans had lined up early for a shot at the best seats in the small house.

Harlem Stage Gatehouse: Best New York City Jazz Clubs

There was talk of Jazzmeia’s recent Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album for her latest album A Social Call and many persons attending were very familiar with Ms. Horn and her repertoire from being fans for some time.

The show was a part of Ms. Horn’s current tour for her debut album, A Social Call, and was also part of the Carnegie Hall presents Neighborhood Concerts.

The show was a wonderful, energetic romp through classics, originals and all, of course, with Jazzmeia’s personality in full swing. She included songs from her current Grammy nominated album including The Peacocks, a new twist on the classic Summertime and in several cases had the audience singing and clapping along at her direction. This was most effective during her rendition of Lift Every Voice and Sing, often regarded as The Black American National Anthem, and the show closer Rose Royce’s I’m Going Down.

Ms. Horn was accompanied by a stellar line up of Victor Gould on Piano, Barry Stephenson on Bass, Henry Conerway III on drums, Josh Evans on Trumpet, Marcus Miler on Tenor Sax and Corey Wallace on Trombone. Jazzmeia mentioned the performance was essentially improvised but these guys never missed a note!

Best NYC Jazz Singers: Jazzmaia Horn

All together this ensemble could have played as long as they wanted and the entire crowd would have stayed. Jazzmeia continues to improve on an already stellar performance style. There are indeed great things in store for Ms. Horn and us, her fans, coming soon!

In addition to her 2018 Grammy nomination, Vocalist Jazzmeia Horn is winner of the 2015 Thelonious Monk Institute International Jazz Competition and the 2013 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition.

We would also like to give special thanks to GoGo Public Relations & Marketing in New York City for turning us on to this performance!
