The Rink at Rockefeller Center - New York City Article

This marks the 80th season for The Rink at Rockefeller Center, which has room for just 150 skaters is a time, creating a truly intimate experience. It has grown worldwide in popularity as a destination and has been a quintessential NYC experience for generations. As the best-known of New York City’s 14 public ice skating venues, The Rink at Rockefeller Center is also home to the Rock Center’s golden statue of Prometheus, who always keeps a watchful eye over the skaters.

About Rockefeller Center
First conceptualized more than 100 years ago by John D. Rockefeller Jr. as a “city within a city,” Rockefeller Center has remained a center for art, style and entertainment ever since. Built during the worst years of the Great Depression, the project was praised for providing employment for more than 40,000 people. When it first opened in May of 1933, Rockefeller Center put the belief that art is an act of good citizenship at the center of its design, with works by accomplished European artists decorating the grand lobby of Rockefeller Plaza.

Today, Rockefeller Center sees more than a million visitors each year and its annual unveiling of art is another highly anticipated New York tradition. Rockefeller’s philanthropic spirit is also kept alive through efforts like the installment of 363 solar panels, which contribute to a healthier environment, as well as donations to community grants and service projects throughout the city.

The Rink at Rockefeller Center is open daily thru April 16, 2017, from 8:30 a.m. until midnight. Skate rentals are available for $12. General admission ranges between $25-$32. Reservations are available for select skating packages and General Admission is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Private lessons are also available.
